Bleeding from Legs
What Causes Bleeding from Veins?
Enlarged veins with a ropey appearance below the surface can cause discomfort and pain. Often, there is more to this condition than you may think. Dr. Alexander Goldman understands how varicose veins are more of a health concern than they are a cosmetic issue.
Varicose vein symptoms may vary, some people may experience symptoms that include a feeling of heaviness or pain in the legs. Sometimes these symptoms can become more serious and involve, swelling, spontaneous bleeding or ulcers. Complications such as a ruptured varicose vein are rare, but if this occurs it can be fatal from rapid blood loss and should be treated immediately. Varicose veins are at risk for damage, because of its close location to the surface of the skin. A simple bump, fall or scrape can cause the varicose vein to rupture. Varicose veins also bleed more heavily than if a normal vein were damaged under the same conditions, because blood flows with higher pressure in varicose veins.
How do I Treat Bleeding from Veins?
If the event occurred where a varicose vein began to hemorrhage, it is crucial to elevate the area and apply firm pressure until the bleeding stops. As you begin to age your skin and tissue will start to become more fragile. Elderly people are at risk of hemorrhaging from leg injuries that would typically be of minor concern. It is important to treat varicose veins so you are not at risk of hemorrhaging.
Dr. Goldman treats varicose veins and spider veins through a couple different methods. These methods include Endovenous Laser Ablation, Sclerotherapy, Ultrasound-Guided Sclerotherapy, and Visually Guided Sclerotherapy.
